La Sirena Mala (aka La Sirena Buena) is a Mermaid who appears as the central antagonist in the Dora and Friends: Into the City! episode Magical Mermaid Adventure.

History

La Sirena Mala was originally a nice Mermaid who enjoyed searching for gold with her treasure hunting team of fellow mermaids. Though she was the best at finding gold, she was not a very good team player as she found all the gold while her teammates were left with only garbage. This created a rift between La Sirena Mala and her friends, causing her to leave Mermaid City and become obsessed with owning gold.

Her obsession with gold lead her to send out her sea turtles to steal all the gold they could find and bring it back to her cave where it was polished by her loyal servant and friend Fishy.

In Magical Mermaid Adventure, La Sirena Mala's sea turtles steal a bag of gold coins that Dora and her friends had found while cleaning up the beach. Dora's old mermaid friend Mariana informs her that La Sirena Mala is the one behind the theft and Dora uses her mermaid necklace to transform into a mermaid to get the coins back from La Sirena Mala. After getting past traps and La Sirena Mala's Octopus Guards, they find La Sirena Mala's treasure cave where they meet Fishy. They are eventually captured by La Sirena Mala in a cage, but are later freed by Fishy. Eventually they are joined by Dora's friends who had obtained Mermaid Necklaces from Mermaid City. La Sirena Mala decides that if she can't have the gold, than no one can and creates vortex to scatter the gold, though Dora and her friends manage to reclaim their gold coins. Fishy stands up for La Sirena Mala and her past is mentioned. Dora and her friends teach La Sirena Mala the value of teamwork causing her to turn over a new leaf and renames herself La Sirena Buena. She and Fishy are allowed to return to living in Mermaid City.

Etymology

Sirena is Spanish for Siren, beautiful yet dangerous creatures from Greek mythology, who lured nearby sailors with their enchanting music and voices to shipwreck on the rocky coast of their island. Mala is the spanish word for bad, while Buena means Good.
