The Mermaids are magical creatures with the body and face of a human and the tail of a fish. They made their first appearance on the episode Dora Saves the Mermaids.

The mermaids are both female and male, younger or older, tanned skin or white skin, blonde or brunette, with brown eyes or blue eyes, but they all have something in common; their fishtails and fins (manatee tails in Manatee's Mermaid Rescue!) are green.

The mermaids appear in the printed version of Dora Saves the Mermaids and Swim, Boots, Swim!.
History:[]
The mermaids live inside a kingdom called Mermaid Kingdom. In their first appearance, a certain Octopus threw garbage to the kingdom while the mermaids were finding Mariana's Magical Crown. Dora came to the rescue by transforming herself to a mermaid after Mariana tossed the crown to Dora. They saved the kingdom and helped redeem the Garbage Octopus.
In their second major appearance in Dora's Rescue in Mermaid Kingdom, a young mermaid named Maribel was helped by Dora and Boots to find her mother and her home in Mermaid Cove, presumably a place in Mermaid Kingdom.
They were also a part of Dora's adventure in Pirate Treasure Hunt which they are on Mermaid's Rocks, singing a song about their favourite treat: Yummy Gummy Fishy Fruity Treats. If they eat one, it changes their color of their tails with each treat color.
Three mermaids made a cameo on The Secret of Atlantis, singing with the cast of the episode in We Did It! (Season 6-8 Edition, as it fitted for this episode as it is part of Season 6).
One mermaid made another secret cameo in Dora's Moonlight Adventure, being trapped on a net. Luckily, Dora and the Kittens freed her in time.
They made an appearance also in the Go, Diego, Go! episode Manatee's Mermaid Rescue!, when a wind raised Mermaid City and all their inhabitants to the surface, but a certain Manatee came to the rescue along with the other ocean animals, including Mariana. They rightfully made Mermaid City sink back to the sea. This episode also revealed that at least some of the mermaids in the series were originally manatees, that could evolve into mermaids and vice versa.
Also, in Dora's Rescue in Mermaid Kingdom, as Maribel was brought back to her mama, they sang Canta, Canta, Canta, with Dora. Canta, Canta, Canta was a song Maribel and her mama sang together when Maribel was young.
The mermaids final appearance in the franchise is in the sequel spin off series called Dora and Friends: Into the City!. Magical Mermaid Adventure, a episode in Season 1 of this show, a evil Mermaid called La Sirena Mala sent her turtles to steal a bag of the Mermaid Kingdom's gold coins, because a few years ago, she had a team for scavenging gold but here's the problem: La Sirena Mala was not a team player, as she only got gold, while the rest of her team got garbage. Later, after the events of the episode, she's reformed by Dora, Mariana and her team, renewing her as "La Sirena Buena".
