Production info
- This season was announced and ordered by Nickelodeon in November 2000.[1]
- This season was mostly produced sometime from mid-late 2001, while episodes from the first season are still airing.
Trivia
- This is the last season to not have any double-length episodes.
- In this season, Dora and Boots' appearances change slightly to match their promotional images. Dora's face in particular, is no longer off model.
- However, in some scenes of episodes, Dora has her Season 1 look. The episodes Lost Squeaky, Doctor Dora, ¡Rápido, Tico!, A Present for Santa, Lost Map, Super Map!, Dora, La Música, and Super Spies give examples.
- It is possible those episodes were being produced when Season 2 was beginning production, during the transitional period to Dora's new face style to match her promotional image.
- However, in some scenes of episodes, Dora has her Season 1 look. The episodes Lost Squeaky, Doctor Dora, ¡Rápido, Tico!, A Present for Santa, Lost Map, Super Map!, Dora, La Música, and Super Spies give examples.
- The final five produced episodes of the season introduced the picture pop-up sequence in a different format for where to go first/next, beginning with Egg Hunt. It goes like this: The first square pops up, then Dora says the first location, the second square pops, she says the second location, and the third square pops up, she says the third location. After that, she asks the viewer, "Where do we go first?" and the blue cursor clicks on that first square. For the second and third time, the same thing happens with the squares popping up, she reviews what they did so far and asks "Where do we go next?". This would be put to permanent use as of Season 3.
- This is also the last season where the picture pop-up sequence is done like it was in Season 1. It is possible that those episodes where produced before the ones that use the format used for Season 3 mentioned above. The last produced episode to use the original format is Dora, La Música.
- Speaking of the new concept to the Picture Pop-Up Sequence, beginning with the next season, with The Lost City, Dora raises one, or sometimes both, arm(s) while asking, "Where do we go first/next?".
- The episodes Hide and Go Seek and Click! serve as a transition to the new format, given that following the Map segment after Dora gives her question, she says the name of each place as it pops up instead of reviewing them after they pop up, then reviews what to do.
- Other than Season 1, with the episode Call Me Mr. Riddles (and also excluding episodes where she was checked multiple times), this is the first season to have more than one episode where Backpack did not even sing her full song once. The first episode in which this occurred, excluding the things mentioned above, is The Big Storm.
- This is the first season in which Map does not sing his full song, which means that The Magic Stick is the first episode where it happens.
- Also, this is the last season where Map sang his original Season 1-2 legacy version of the "I'm the Map" song. However, it made a surprise return in the Go, Diego, Go! episode, Diego and Dora Help Baby Monarch Get to the Festival.
- Beginning with the next season, he sings his song alone less frequently. In most episodes, the Fiesta Trio would join in the song.
- This is also the last season in which Map comes out of the right side pocket upon being called; beginning with the next season, he always comes out of the left side pocket.
- This is the last season to use the original opening sequence, unless one counts the home media versions of Dora Had a Little Lamb and The Lost City, which those episodes are from the next season, Season 3.
- From this season on, when Dora asks if the viewer sees the locations, there would sometimes be multiple paths to other locations rather than just the one.
- This is the first season where Dora does not say "Let's stop and think" before mentioning Map, which she did on a regular basis in the previous season.
- However she did say it in Lost Squeaky, Rojo the Fire Truck, The Golden Explorers, Pinto, the Pony Express, The Big Piñata, Click!, ¡Rápido, Tico!, Super Map!, and School Pet.
- She also said it one final time in Best Friends from Season 3.
- Speaking of Dora bringing up Map, this is the first season where Dora asks "Who do we ask for help when we don't know which way to go?" to the viewer instead of Boots on a regular basis.
- However, she did ask the question to Boots in ¡Rápido, Tico!.
- Speaking of Dora bringing up Map, this is the first season where Dora asks "Who do we ask for help when we don't know which way to go?" to the viewer instead of Boots on a regular basis.
- She also said it one final time in Best Friends from Season 3.
- However she did say it in Lost Squeaky, Rojo the Fire Truck, The Golden Explorers, Pinto, the Pony Express, The Big Piñata, Click!, ¡Rápido, Tico!, Super Map!, and School Pet.
- This is the first season where Jose Zelaya voices Tico. However, Benny and Isa are still voiced by their same voice actors/actresses (Jake Burbage and Ashley Fleming respectively), but they would be gone after Season 4 is over and get new voice actors/actresses (along with some other characters) in Season 5.
- This is the first season where, during the Map segment, the background color is random for each episode. In all of Season 1, the background was brown.
- This is the last season to use the valley background from El Coquí, The Chocolate Tree, To the Treehouse, Call Me Mr. Riddles, Te Amo, Pablo's Flute, and Backpack! during the "favorite parts" scene.
- It was used from the first twelve episodes of this season (Lost Squeaky to A Letter for Swiper), Lost Map, Dora, La Música, Egg Hunt, Hide and Go Seek, León, the Circus Lion, and Super Spies.
- This is the third longest running season, as it took more than five years to have all these episodes to be aired (Season 8 being the second longest, where it took more than six years (March 2013-August 2019) to have all of the episodes aired, and Season 4 being the longest, where it took almost six and a half years (October 2003-March 2010 to have all the episodes from it to be aired).
- This season, tied with Season 1, has the most number of episodes in a single season, that being 26.
- This is the first season to have more than one held back episode. Whose Birthday is It? was produced in Season 2 but aired during Season 3. Same with Super Spies, but it aired during Season 4.
- This is the first season where Swiper is on his good side. This occurred in these episodes: Pinto, the Pony Express (after Benny gave him a cowboy cookie), A Letter for Swiper (after he got his letter delivered), and Whose Birthday is It? (when Dora, Boots, Benny, Isa, Tico, and the Big Red Chicken all celebrated his birthday, which he really got appreciated).
- This is the not only the first season where most episodes, not all, have the Travel Song song sung twice (it happened only once in The Big Storm, El Día De Las Madres, Doctor Dora, ¡Rápido, Tico!, A Present For Santa, Egg Hunt, Hide and Go Seek, Quack! Quack!, León, the Circus Lion, and Whose Birthday is It?), but only the first season where there is at least one episode without it, and that episode, in this case, is Dora, La Música, where A Musician I Am replaces the Travel Song.
- Additionally, this is the first season where Dora and Boots clap three times after each "Where are we going?". That means that The Big Storm is the last episode where they simply just say the place after asking each other, "Where are we going?". It is possible that said episode was the first produced one of this season. Because of this, each "Where are we going?" line is slightly longer and has a four-beat instrumentation after the clapping.
- In addition, when Dora says "Come on, say it with us!" to begin the song, she claps her hands on the word "with".
- Swiper appears in every episode in this season.
- This excludes the personalized Kideo VHS/DVD version of Whose Birthday is It?, where a kid from the video replaces Swiper, while in the original version, he did appear.
- The episodes ¡Rápido, Tico! and A Present for Santa were released on Dora's Christmas! VHS and Dora, La Música was released on Move to the Music before they aired on TV.
- Lost Map and Super Map! premiered on the same day.
- Doctor Dora and Whose Birthday is It? are the only two episodes to never seek a VHS/DVD release.
- However, Whose Birthday is It? was only seen on a personalized VHS/DVD with the same name made by Kideo.
- It was also seen on international releases of Dora Saves the Snow Princess. Same with Doctor Dora, which is also seen on international releases of Puppy Power!.
- However, Whose Birthday is It? was only seen on a personalized VHS/DVD with the same name made by Kideo.
- To the Monkey Bars is the only episode from this season to feature the Troll Bridge, a location that appears a lot in the series.
- However, excluding any of his character find segments, the Grumpy Old Troll appears in one other episode besides the one mentioned above, that being The Happy Old Troll.
- Beginning with this season, when Dora asks the viewer to stand up, Boots says, "Up, up, up! Stand up!". This started in The Golden Explorers. Before that, he said the mid Season 1 catchphrase ("Up, up, up!") once more in The Magic Stick.
- In "León, the Circus Lion", Dora says it instead of Boots, the first time she does so.
- This is the last season for Tico's Character Find and the first for Baby Red Fish, Little Star, and Azul. Additionally, it's the only season for Santa to have his very own character find (because A Present for Santa is a Christmas special).
- The latter aforementioned Character Finds have Dora's voice slightly higher-pitched, due to Kathleen Herles' voice maturing.
- Boots had a new character find background in this season. It takes place in a small forest area with many plants, and has new voice clips such as "Hey!", "You can't find me!", "Try and catch me!", and "Whoa!", and when he is found, he dances and says, "Ooh-ooh-ahh-ahh!" repeatedly. This was introduced in El Día De Las Madres.
- The episodes A Present For Santa and Whose Birthday is It? are the only two episodes in this season that are not on iTunes.
- Additionally, Super Spies is also not included under "Dora the Explorer Season 2", making it only 23 episodes. However, it can only be found under "Dora the Explorer: Swiper the Explorer" on iTunes.
- Beginning this season, the Grumpy Old Troll has become more sensible with Dora and Boots, and no longer vows to stump them next time after they solve his riddle.
