Production info
- 88% of this season was produced in 2003, while episodes from Seasons 2 and 3 were airing.
- For the double-length episodes, episode #2 was produced in late 2003, the 11th was produced in early or mid 2005, the 15th was produced in early or mid 2006, and the 19th was produced in early or mid 2007.
- There are no episodes produced in 2004, possibly because the producers were focusing on coming up with ideas for the spin-off series Go, Diego, Go!.
- However, Dora's Dance to the Rescue might have possibly started being in production that year (around mid or late 2004) and got finished in early or mid 2005. Therefore, it was technically made from 2004-2005, but the copyright year goes by completion year, so it says "2005".
Trivia
- This season temporarily abandons the picture pop-up sequence (except Star Catcher, Dora's World Adventure!, and Dora Saves the Mermaids) and introduced a new way for Dora and Boots to track their progress: they check in on Map every time they pass a place and he (Map) would place a red checkmark to indicate it is done. The path then traces to the next location and the blue cursor clicks on it, and Map asks the viewer to tell Dora and Boots where they need to go next.
- Speaking of Map, this season is technically the return of "So you tell Dora…", except instead of saying it before repeating the places (he still says "So remember…" before doing so), he says it in a way to encourage the viewers to "tell Dora" that she needs to go to the first/next location, like this: ("So you tell Dora, first/next we have/need to go to [location]!"). He now uses this method for the rest of the show.
- Map still zoom wipes in this season, but not in every episode.
- He did not zoom wipe at all in these episodes: Dora's Fairytale Adventure, Big Sister Dora, Catch the Babies, Dora and Diego to the Rescue!, Dora's First Trip (there was no Map segment in the episode because in the story, Dora did not have him or Backpack), Dora's World Adventure!, Star Mountain, Baby Crab, Super Spies 2: The Swiping Machine, We're a Team! (Map segments only), Save Diego!, and Swiper the Explorer.
- He zoom wipes in the first and last segments in Daisy, La Quinceañera, Super Babies, The Mixed-Up Seasons, Baby Jaguar's Roar, and The Shy Rainbow.
- He zoom wipes in the second and last segments (not the first) in A Crown for King Juan el Bobo.
- He zoom wipes only in the first segment in Star Catcher, Dora's Dance to the Rescue, and Dora Saves the Mermaids.
- He zoom wipes only in the second segment (not the first and/or last) in Dora's Got a Puppy and La Maestra de Música.
- Most of this season was produced in 2003 due to production on Go, Diego, Go! beginning not long after.
- This is the first season where Swiper was absent in more than one episode in a single season, because in Seasons 1 and 3, he was absent once, that being Te Amo for Season 1 and Save the Puppies! for Season 3. Additionally, he had a perfect attendance in the second season.
- He was absent in these episodes: Dora's Fairytale Adventure, Big Sister Dora, Catch the Babies, and Dora and Diego to the Rescue! (excluding the theme song and his character find segment).
- This season holds the most times Swiper was seen on his good side.
- The episodes he was on his good side are as follows: Dora's Got a Puppy, A Crown for King Juan el Bobo (briefly after King Juan el Bobo tells him a joke which he finds very funny, that being "Swoopy, no doopy!"), Dora's Dance to the Rescue, Dora's World Adventure!, Dora Saves the Mermaids, and Swiper the Explorer.
- This is the first season where Swiper joins Dora on some of her adventures, that episode being Swiper the Explorer.
- Diego was voiced by Gabriel Alvarez for most of this season (just like in some mid Season 3 episodes), but in Dora and Diego to the Rescue! and Dora Saves the Mermaids, he was voiced by Jake T. Austin, who would also voice him in Go, Diego, Go!. It is possible that the first said episode was produced after all the episodes where Alvarez voiced him.
- And also, the director's cut version of Dora and Diego to the Rescue! in Dora and Diego Power Hour, it marks the debut of having Rescue Pack being anthropomorphic with the voice of Keeler Sandhaus.
- This is the last season to use the 1999-2005 Nick Jr. Productions logo.
- This is the only season to use the 2005-2009 Nick Jr. Productions logo from Go, Diego, Go!. It was only used with its matching audio in Dora and Diego to the Rescue! and Dora's Dance to the Rescue, and it was used with a mismatch audio (the 1999-2005 audio plays instead) in Dora's World Adventure! and Dora Saves the Mermaids.
- This is the last season for the Explorer Stars. They never even appeared in Dora's Big Birthday Adventure at the birthday party.
- Star-catching became infrequent throughout the season, and it is the last to feature it. Despite this, the star pocket is permanently visible on Backpack throughout the whole season whenever Dora is facing left (when it repeatedly disappeared and reappeared and changed its position throughout Season 3), thus the star pocket is always there regardless of whether or not there's star-catching or calling a star for help. It would be gone after this season. It is unknown what happens afterwards and/or if Dora still owns it.
- This is the only season where the star pocket is seen on Backpack during her segments, because it was absent the last season.
- The star pocket will be hidden in the final two double-length episodes.
- Because of the reduction of star-catching, most episodes in this season will instead feature a traditional Character Find segment during the end credits, and it's the last season to do so.
- The only episodes in this season to use an explorer star minigame (regardless if there's star-catching or not) are Star Catcher, Dora's Fairytale Adventure, Daisy, La Quinceañera, Best Friends, Star Mountain, The Shy Rainbow, and Super Spies 2: The Swiping Machine.
- Fairy Star, Switchy, and Spy Star are the only explorer stars to debut this season and Switchy and Spy Star are only ones who never get mini games during the credits.
- This is the last season for the original version of the Season 3-6 opening sequence. It gets changed, like the explorer stars being removed for example, in the next season.
- This also marks the last season for the departure of the original cast except for the grown-up actors and actresses like Marc Weiner and Chris Gifford.
- This is the longest running season, since it took almost six-and-a-half years (October 2003 and March 2010) to have all the episodes being aired.
- It is possible that the reason why Swiper the Explorer was saved for March of 2010 is to be premiered as an early 10th anniversary special before the official one in August with Dora's Big Birthday Adventure.
- This season, tied with Season 5, holds the record of the most double-length episodes in a single season, that being four.
- This season has the third most amount of episodes in a single season, that being 24.
- This is the first season in which Dora wears skirts or dresses.
- Dora wears a dress for the first time in Dora's Fairytale Adventure".
- This is the first season in which Dora does not wear Backpack with specific outfits.
- This is the final season to use Dora and Boots' original Season 1 recordings of "Come on, vamonos!" and "Where are we going?" during the Travel Song.
- Dora has the same four designs from the previous season, albeit modified slightly to have the star pocket visible on Backpack.
- In some episodes, Dora's appearances change repeatedly throughout. Some instances would be Big Sister Dora and Super Babies.
- Beginning this season, many of Dora and Boots' instances of "We did it!" from Season 1 during the We Did It! song have been rerecorded. Daisy, La Quinceañera is the first episode to feature them.
- However, the original ones from the first three seasons were seen in Star Catcher, Dora's First Trip, and Star Mountain. It is possible that said episodes were produced before the ones that use the newer recordings, thus making them first three produced in this season.
- Also, the instance of Dora and Boots singing "We did it!" in the chorus has been kept from Season 1 until the next season.
- A lot of episodes from this season were first seen on home media before airing on TV.
- Dora's Dance to the Rescue was first seen on the VHS/DVD of the same name.
- Dora's World Adventure! was first seen on the VHS/DVD of the same name.
- Star Mountain was seen on Catch the Stars.
- La Maestra de Música was first seen on Musical School Days.
- Dora Saves the Mermaids was first seen on the DVD of the same name.
- The Shy Rainbow was first seen on the DVD of the same name.
- Super Spies 2: The Swiping Machine was first seen on Undercover Dora.
- We're a Team! was first seen on the VHS/DVD of the same name.
- Save Diego! was first seen on Animal Adventures.
- Swiper the Explorer was first seen on Save the Day! and Let's Explore: Dora's Greatest Adventures.
- This is the last season to feature the rainforest as a location before Dora's Big Birthday Adventure and onward, where the term "rainforest" is used to collectively refer to the forest zone where the series takes place, which is also used in Dora and Friends: Into the City!.
- This is the last season in which, in episodes that feature the Troll Bridge, the Grumpy Old Troll frowns and make a grumpy face during his I'm the Grumpy Old Troll song. Beginning with the next season, he smiles during the whole song.
- However, he did smile during the song in the episode Little Star, but only up until the line, "Who's there?!"
- This is the first season where Dora asks the viewer what path the location is on. It happened in Dora's Fairytale Adventure, Dora's Dance to the Rescue, Baby Jaguar's Roar, Boots to the Rescue (Boots did it since Dora was not there and she was at school waiting for him to deliver her song), and Swiper the Explorer.
- However, it was technically introduced in Rojo the Fire Truck.
- Dora Saves the Mermaids is the first episode (and the only one in this season) where after Dora and Boots say, "Louder!", they shout "Map" (with the viewer) before his segment starts. It gets put to permanent use as of the next season.
